From Yuckie Poo to Woo Hoo!!!

The bathroom remodel happened in two parts: first there was the floor and now the shower. We knew when we bought this house there would eventually be issues with the shower; and once we demolished the floor we began to see the extent of the damage. The pan (floor) was leaking and we could only hope for minimal rotten places.

(August 31st, 2010) We took a vacation day to demolish the shower stall and expose the studs. We knew this would not be an easy job, so we enlisted help from the fabulous Brother in law! Everything we tore out was to be hauled away to the dump and we needed to complete the project once the kiddos were at school.

First, we began by pulling out the ceiling, since this did not contain the infamous chicken wire…

Next, we broke down each wall, and tried to maintain whole pieces.

The walls came down with minimal trouble.

Sometime before lunch, we had a slight flood and had to call for HHHHHHEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPP!!!!

We did not turn off the water before pulling down the plumbed wall and began a slight flood in the shower (with only one wall to help contain the water).

Ultimately, Papa (my FIL) was able to cap the water pipes and we completed our demo on schedule.

There were numerous hours spent researching, ordering, checking,

and rechecking to ensure the Re-Build went as smooth as possible.

We received all necessary parts in advance and had the ceiling wired for lights ahead of time. 

September 20th:
Day 1 of the Remodel: Frame in the recessed seat, ensure new shower pan is dri-fitted to the walls to ensure proper measurements for plumbing, frame ceiling over the seat and purchase tile board, purple board, and plywood necessary for framing.

Day 2 of the Remodel: Framed in the walls.

My dad making sure everything is square and Perfect!!!

Definitely, could not have completed this without help from family!!!

Day 3 of the Remodel: Red Guard the walls, install ceiling and recessed lights and begin the tiling process.

Day 4 of the Remodel: Tile the entire shower including the band of natural and glass stones.

Day 5 of the Remodel: Tile the two adjacent walls in the bathroom.

Day 6 of the Remodel: Grout…buy more grout, grout some more…go buy more grout and finally finish.

Day 7-10 of the Remodel: Clean the Grout (I hate unsanded grout…but VINEGAR is my new BFF).

Then first coat of sealer…

Day 11 of Remodel: Install shower heads and faucet fixture.

Day 12 of Remodel: Take vacation day to seal the grout again, and paint the walls. 

Give kiddos the inaugural shower.  They LOVE it!!!
